She strolled towards the tall doors of the orphanage, her heels clicking against the old stone. The fresh smell of spring approaching her, coming from the trees, grass and freshly bloomed flowers. The children played in the courtyard as she walked by and gazed. Madeleine wished she could be young again, to not have so many duties, so much work… so much violence to deal with. She sighed and turned, and sat on the steps of the place where she was raised, and trained.
“Another bull mission completed and still no sign of him. Where the heck is he?” scrunching up her nose, she crossed her arms and huffed. Looking down at the scar's on her body, she remembered that day. The day they tore her mother to pieces. She only hoped that none of the children before her had ever bared witness to such an event... and if they did, she'd hoped that they would one day become like her, and avenge their loved ones.

A car pulled up in front of the orphanage. It was a nice car and the flags on it meant that it was from the Vatican. Once the car stopped, a priest stepped out and then reached into the car and pulled out a little girl. He carried her in his arms even though she was clearly awake. The girl looked very tired. Not in the way that she hadn't gotten much sleep, but more of that she had been through a huge ordeal. Her brown hair had been freshly washed and she was dressed in a purple t-shirt, denim shortalls, and sneakers. She didn't look quite right for her skin was a touch too pale for a child of her age.
The priest continued toward the front of the orphanage and approached Madeleine. "Good Morning, Sister. We have a new child for you. She is.. a bit of a special case. She was found last night in front of a church." The priest seemed a bit nervous about the matter. The little girl looked towards Madeleine and then quickly turned her head away.

"Hmph." Madeleine stared at the child. She stood up and walked up to the priest, leaning in towards the precious package he was holding. Madeleine inspected the child up and down, finally grinning, she placed her hands on her hips and winked towards the priest.
"It's okay father, I can take it from here..." She pointed her thumb towards herself, "I can handle this little Vampire Girlie right here!" She noticed how the priest was shocked at her reaction and quickly shrugged it off. It wasn't Vampire's she hated, it was the Ghouls the rogue ones decided to spit out. A vampire can be sensible and respectful, as she had seen between Lady Integra and her Vampires, and she respected some, just not the ones who decided to go around, senselessly tearing humans apart, or turning them into mindless shells. As much as Anderson tried to teach her otherwise, nothing truly ever gets through her head... especially what HE says.
She then smiled sweetly and held out her hand to the girl for her to see. "C'mon kid lets get you inside."

Zoey looked towards the new person again and saw the outstretched hand. She slowly reached her own tiny hand out to take hers but then retracted it before she could take it. The priest looked at Madeleine and then back at Zoey. "It's alright, child. Sister Madeleine is very kind. You'll be safe with her." Zoey looked up at the priest and reluctantly reached out for Madeleine to take her. She didn't feel like she had enough strength to walk on her own yet.
Once Madeleine took the small girl, the priest bid her farewell and got back into the car. The car drove away as quickly as it had arrived leaving the two by the entrance alone. Zoey looked up at Madeleine again and shivered. "..dun hurt me.." She mumbled this quietly as if it wasn't directed at Madeleine necessarily.

"What!? Hurt you? Why would I do that?" She smiled at the small child and cradled her back up in her arms. "Alrighty then lets get you all cozy up in here..." She walked swiftly with the girl and passed through the halls.
"Just listen here, I am going to get you into a room a little bit closer to mine, just be wary of Anderson. He goes a bit silly around vampires... believe me." She shook her head at the thought of her boss fighting Alucard.
"I never caught your name either..." Madeleine said calmly, searching through her keys to open the door to the girls new room.

Zoey looked around curiously as they wandered the halls of the orphanage. They were pretty plain looking aside from some of the rooms that seemed to be makeshift classrooms of sorts or playrooms. Once they got to her new room she looked up at Madeleine. Everything was happening so fast and she wasn't sure what to think. "..Zoey.." She mumbled her name and stuck her thumb in her mouth.
She was being called a vampire. A creature that she thought only existed on tv and in books. Despite being four years old, her senses were telling her it was true. She felt her sharp canines pressing against her thumb, she could hear more creaks in the floor than she normally would be able to hear. Things just felt different and she wasn't sure if she liked it or not.
Her attention quickly shifted out of her own thoughts as the door was opened. She looked around as Madeleine brought her inside.

"Now then. This be your room my lovely little Zoey." She acted a bit silly in hopes of making the child laugh. "Mines right next door, and if you ever need anything you just knock or come right in! Don't be a stranger. And if you ever feel abnormally hungry you come right to me okay?" She patted the small girls head.
Looking around, she sighed and the memories flowed back.
"This used to be My room y'know. When I was about your age I came here as well." Madeleine smiled and picked up the girl, and moved them so they could sit on the bed. "If anything ever bother's you, just let me know and we can talk about it. I know this time is tough for you, and I am not gonna go off on you and be all 'Jesus is our savior and blah blah blah'... I am just letting you know I am here if you need a friend and someone to talk to. Okay?" Maddie petted her hair and sat her on the bed herself. "So is there anything you'd like to do?" She knelt over to Zoey's height and grinned.

Zoey normally would have reacted positively to the silliness but she wasn't in the state of mind to. She just stared around the room. It was pretty plain. A bed, dresser, desk, and a lamp. She sat on the bed as she was set down and continued to suck her thumb. She saw a rag doll sitting on the bed next to her and she quickly picked it up with her free arm and hugged it close.
"..Can I go see Mommy now?" She didn't quite understand why she was in this place and not back at home. She didn't understand why she was being given this room and why this woman was being so nice to her. "..Mommy is supposed to take me to preschool today." She took her thumb out of her mouth which was bleeding slightly now from being accidentally bitten.

"Uhm Zoey..." Madeleine took the girls free hand and nudged her a bit off the bed. "Lets walk and talk..."
Walking through the plain halls, Maddie looked at the old pictures and walls. She took notice of the peeling paint and chipped border, even the little crayon drawing on the lower part of the wall that were partially washed away. She opened the door to the room she was hoping to bring her. 'Weaponry'. She saw the shiny crafted metal in the corner and picked it up bringing it over to a seat and placing it in front of her. She waved Zoey to come sit next to her.
"Zoey. This is my sword. I use this to kill things we call ghouls. A ghoul is the soulless shell that a vampire leaves a non-virgin after feeding off them. Like I said, when I was your age I came here. Almost the same situation as you. My mother was murdered by ghouls..." She looked down at her sword and looked back at the girl.
"Your mother isn't coming back Zo'. I am sorry, but I can promise you this much. That one day you can use this sword against your enemies and help avenge your mother AND my own. I Have confidence that even though your a bit different then myself, I can train you to be a master at a sword. You think you can do that?" She leaned the handle of the sword towards her and let her little hands play along the grooves and designs...

Zoey slid off the bed carefully, letting her feet hit the floor. She stood up, her steps a little wobbly for she was still weakened from what happened to her. Walking as best she could, she followed Madeleine. She took in her surroundings as best she could.
Once they got into the weaponry room she sat down and looked at the sword that was set in front of her. She reached out to touch it, the shiny metal being entrancing to her as it would any four year old. She listened to what Madeleine was saying, somewhat understand her words although not knowing what "virgin" meant.
"But Mommy isn't dead.. I saw her at the park with me. Why can't I see her? I wanna go home.." She ran her fingers down the smooth part of the blade. Her thumb that had been bitten earlier had healed up already and all that was left were small drops of blood. "The scary man took me away so why can't I go back?" She felt really confused.

"Scary Man... Probably a vampire." Madeleine thought to herself. The girl either didn't want to except the thought her mother was gone, or just didn't know. But it was very doubtful she was alive. "Well we can't let you go anywhere right now. You need to relax, and we need to make sure the area is clear. I promise one day we'll go back and check ok?" She patted her head again. Maddie went to go put the sword back, but then decided to take it with her, just in case. They then walked down the hall back to her room, hand in hand.

Zoey didn't want to believe that her mother was dead. After all, the last time she saw her she was perfectly alive. Sighing a little, she slid herself off the chair and took Madeleine's hand. It seemed she had no choice but to stick around but she would go and find her mother some day. Hopefully soon.
She walked slowly down the hallways again to go back to their rooms. Her legs seemed to be holding out a little better than before as she was getting more used to them. Still feeling a bit drowsy though, her eyes tried to close every so often and she shook her head to keep herself awake. She had slept a lot before she came here, so why was she so tired?
